Successful Writing: A Rhetoric for Advanced Composition

As a community college instructor, I am able to help my students only one evening a week. Maxine Hairston, on the other hand, helps them as many evenings as they want, and she is available on weekends, on demand, for as long as they keep the book. When she talks with them, she reassures them that writing is not impossible, that they have great things to say, and that following some clear steps will make life much easier. She counsels them on how to get started, how to make their writing both clear and coherent, and how to end. Without Ms. Hairston, our writing lives would be much less satisfying.
