Stuart's Run to Faith - turned my grandson on to reading
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
Stuart's Run to Faith is the catapult that sent my grandson over the top as far as reading. After reading this book, he devoured the entire Arby Jenkins series. In the book being reviewed, Stuart is consumed with cross-country and using it to get the notoriety he wants until he reads something given to him by Mr. Watson. Stuart goes through a lot of trials, but ultimately the book given to him by Mr. Watson makes all the difference. My grandson is a middle school student and this book (really this entire Arby Jenkins series)connects with children of this age group. I highly recommend this book and the entire Arby Jenkins series for boys of middle school age.
Touching, yet funny, treatment of spiritual struggles

Hambrick has once again captured both the grief and humor of adolescence. Junior High is riddled with angst, and the daily triumphs and tragedies of the characters are at once painfully real and extremely funny. Stuart's humanity is very believable, making his search for the divine all the more believable. The teaching is Scriptural without being pedantic or "preachy." Read it. Laugh AND cry. And check out the Arby books, too.
