This is a practical, wonderful book

I am a medical student at Oral Roberts University, and I began to read this book because of it's practicality and the widespread amounts of stress I see in people everywhere I go. I began to read this book, and it is so good, that it is my inspiration for my senior paper - the etiology of stress as it relates to physical ailments and various life-threatening diseases. You really feel Dr. Colbert's sense of empathy and love for people. He writes with understanding. Happy reading!

"Who you gonna call? STRESS-BUSTERS!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Don Colbert has performed a priceless public health service by publishing this work on how to stress less. Using concepts from Drs. Albert Ellis, and Hans Selye, Dr. Colbert not only shows how toxic stress gradually and insidiously takes over your life, but also how to combat it; with a mixture of rational-emotive-behavioral concepts, excercise, and proper nutrition to include vitamins and supplements. This book is written for anyone who struggles with the scourge of stress and feels that their life is spinning out of control as a result. After reading this book, I was immediately filled with hope and strength, secure in the knowledge that with prayer, and following Dr. Colbert's spirit-filled suggestions, I will be able to effectively manage stress in my life. This is not some cheesey self-help book that promises that your life will be all sunshine and roses. Rather, it is a practical, scientific, as well as spiritual look at one of the most nefarious public health menaces of this modern age: STRESS!!!!

Tremendous Help and Insight

This book was amazing. It seems like Dr Colbert knew everything about how I was raised and how events in my past influence how I deal with stress today. He points out the links between the stress in your life and how it impacts your health, how stress is the major cause behind many health problems Americans are facing today.

Help when in need!

I'm a premed student and have lived a hurried existence the past few years. Frustration, anxiety, and the drive to get more have led me to do more with my life. It would seem positive, were it not that i was running from my real problems. Albeit far from my effort, God put this book in my hands at the right time. I have since read it daily, and grown more appreciative of what i have. I am also learning to take on less, say no more, and do what i really value doing. It hasn't been a perfect road; I spent last night building a little organizer thing that i don't really need. In any case, this book has helped me to make these changes. The book has helped me to view what's important to me, and it has helped me see what God wants me to do with my life. I recommend Doctor Colbert's book to anyone stressed out with the hurried pace of our culture that stems from the value of things over people.

DeStressing lready

An excellent book! Dr. Colbert walks a fine line in this book - he empathizes with his patients' and readers' stresses in the modern world, yet shows them ways their own thought patterns can contribute to the stress and ways that changing their thoughts and behaviors can reduce the stress, while not telling them, "It's all in your head." He walks this line with finess. His suggestions for reducing stress are practical and easy to understand, and they work! I've tried some already, and can affirm that they have helped. Some of parts I found most helpful included the ways that people with "passive" or "aggressive" personalities can become "assertive" without being obnoxious, ways to lighten worry, and the importance of setting aside grudges. The exercise and diet tips were also helpful, as was the study of adrenal fatigue. I also liked the stories of Biblical figures (especially Abraham) from the perspective of their worry and stress - it's a fascinating, fresh and sometimes humorous way to look at the familiar stories. Also, this book was from a Christian perspective, but I really appreciated the lack of the right-wing extremist politics that dominate so much of Christian literature today. The lessons in this book appeared caring, nonjudgmental and open to everyone, regardless of his or her political bent. Stress is something we all face, and I would recommend this book as a way to help cut it down to a manageable size. For more on reducing stress and time management, I would recommend Margin and Overload by Dr. Richard Swenson.
