Excellent way of blending different approaches and techniques to solve problems

Saltzer has done an excellent job in this book in emphasizing the role of thinking clearly and correctly identifying the nature of the problem (illustrate/draw a basic skeleton graph, chart,or diagram of what you think the problem you are dealing with or facing entails) before any solutions approach is used or attempted(mathematical, statistical, ordinal, qualitative, quantitative). The thought projects selected also give the student excellent exposure to a wide range of science and philosophy topics.Mathematics definitely has a role to play as an aid to problem solving but is not the same thing as problem solving.Clear thinking and understanding what the question is that has to be answered are just as important .
