Strangler

"Strangler" is another excellent offering from true crime author Corey Mitchell. This is the second book from Mr. Mitchell that I have read. Like "Evil Eyes" it didn't disappoint. The author includes transcripts from Anthony Shore's confessions. The reader gets a chilling insight into the mind of an incestuous serial killer. He sensed that he would be discovered after submitting a court ordered DNA sample. Mr. Mitchell gives accounts of some of Shore's disturbing activities as a youth. Corey Mitchell does a great job of detailing the investigation and prosecution of Anthony Shore.He writes about the crime lab scandal and that makes the independent DNA lab very important as a part of the prosecution's case. Add to that the tragic suicide of one of the homicide detectives,and the revolving door of relationships that the killer had and you have a very chaotic period. The author provides a fast-paced but focused book on virtually every aspect of theses murders,from the victims,their families,Shore's family,the detectives determination to solve the cases,and the Assistant District Attorney who successfully prosecuted the killer. A great read from one of the best true crime writers of the day!

This is the first book I have read from Corey Mitchell, and based on the strength of this one, I will be purchasing his other true crime stories. Mitchell has a gift. Even with presenting what could be dull facts, he keeps the pages turning. His writing is clear and concise, and never gets boring. The story of Anthony Shore is interesting and the author really details his life nicely. You can never really know what makes a talented musician and very intelligent guy turn into a murderer, but Corey Mitchell lays out all the facts and gives you everything you need to get into the twisted mind of this killer. Very good book.

I opened the book on a Friday morning and didn't put it down until I finished reading the very last page later that night. Corey's detailed descriptions of the victims and their crime scenes made me think I was reading a script for a movie - surely horrific crimes such as these only occur in the movies - but it was very real. Corey's words painted a vivid picture of a truly evil person. IMHO - Corey's best so far.

I am a big fan of Corey Mitchell's writing. I have read everything he has ever written including "Hollywood death Scenes" and was eagerly waiting for "Strangler" to come out. I was lucky enough to find an early copy of the book at a local retail store and quickly devoured it over the labor Day weekend. Once again, I was scared to death by the telling of this gruesome, yet touching story. Corey Mitchell has an uncanny knack for making you fearful, slightly nauseous and teary-eyed in one book. He also really gets into the mind of a serial killer like no other author I have ever read. The quotes about ego that are introuced before each major section truly resonate and I recommend going back and re-reading them as I believe Mitchell tells the story through those numerous quotes without you really realizing what they are all about the first time. I truly felt as if I was standing right next to these poor girls -- Carmen, Diana, Dana, and Laurie, as they experienced there last moments alive and their demise at the hands of the ultimately sadsack Tony Shore. Tony's a guy you want to like, but just can't. He is talented, brilliant, sort of good looking. He is also an incestuous pedophile rapist and serial killer who is completely disgusting. I also enjoyed reading about the officer Bob King who helped bring Shore down. That man is a real hero if ever there was one. His perserverance and skepticism over years and years truly paid off. Wonderful, tragic story. Perfect writing and worth every penny. I cannot wait for Mitchell's next book.

I was lucky enough to pick up Corey Mitchell's last book "Evil Eyes" this past summer and was scared to death by it. I could not wait to snatch up his latest epic about another Houston serial killer, Tony Shore. I had never heard of Shore before, just like I had never heard of Coral Watts -- thank God I don't live in Houston! Mitchell provides so much excellent information on Shore, his family members, his victims, and the officers and lawyers who bring him to justice I felt as if I came away knowing everyone involved. Amazingly, I felt as if Tony Shore would have actually been a pleasant guy to hang around and I completely understand why so many women in his life had no clue what he was really all about. There is so much in "Strangler" that will keep you up late at night and scare the tar out of you. It is by turns horrifying, disgusting, funny, tense, scary, and tearful I felt like I was on amazing rollercoaster. Not many true crime authors can pull that type of writing off but Corey Mitchell does it yet again. Easily the best true crime book of 2007 and one of the top books from this year period.
