Storytelling in Emergent Literacy: Fostering Multiple Intelligence

Trostle-Brand and Donato have created an excellent resource for early childhood and primary teachers. This book not only gives explanations of the different intelligences and gives ideas for implementation, it also gives activities for specific stories. Broken down by month, the format of this book is very easy to follow.

This book provides descriptions of storytelling methods and stories and resource lists that lend themselves to the methods. The information provided is useful in any early childhood classroom, supplying the teacher with effective and entertaining methods of storytelling. The main downfall of this book is the lack of readability of the material provided in early chapters. The material is presented in a fashion that assumes the reader's knowledge base on brain function, which makes reading "cover to cover" an endeavor to undertake with a dictionary at hand. That said, overall I find this book to be a valuable resource in my classroom, especially for seasonal curriculum.
