Zoe, the heroine of Stealing Midnight really steals every scene in this novel. She is witty, charming, funny, sunny and unconventional. She is a romantic at heart, so when she and her uncle are robbed by a masked bandit she is simply enthralled by the tall dark haired stranger. Darius, "Dare" is the son a nobleman but he robs coaches not only to gain wealth but he is also looking for the culprit who ruined his sister. He knows he has found him when he sees Zoe's uncle in her carriage and he knows Zoe is the key to his revenge. Dare and Zoe meet again when he climbs onto her balcony and now Zoe is even more enchanted with Dare. She simply finds his rakish ways irresistible. These two are thrown together through mishaps and every time they are Zoe falls a little more in love with Dare. She is pretty smart and keeps her feelings under wraps but she allows little glimpses of her genuine like for the highwayman to shine through. Dare is exasperated with Zoe but at the same time he sees a woman who has a loyal and kind heart. Before he knows it, Zoe has thrown all his plans awry. This is a sweet novel full of unexpected occurrences. Zoe was so unpredictable that I never knew what her next move would be. Dare is a stouthearted and smart hero but heroine Zoe is really the driving force of this novel.
