Book Overview

As Stephen King will attest, the popularity of the occult in American literature has only grown since the days of Edgar Allan Poe. American Supernatural Tales celebrates the richness of this tradition with chilling contributions from some of the nation's brightest literary lights, including Poe himself, H. P. Lovecraft, Shirley Jackson, Ray Bradbury, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and--of course--Stephen King. By turns phantasmagoric, spectral, and demonic, this is a frighteningly good addition to Penguin Classics.

For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

Good for younger boys

Good for younger boys (under 10). My son is 10 and a good reader and prefers the Student Life Application bible rather than Guys Life Application. This was too young for him. But I do love New Living Translation for the Bible part. It is easy to read and understand for anyone--youth and adults.

awesome kid's bible

If you're looking for a bible that will specifically fit your boy, this is the one. We also got our daughter the one for girls. She loves it because it speaks directly to things she's going through and we are giving this one to my son for his birthday next month. It points out items and scriptures in the bible that directly relate to things he's going through and points out how the bible addresses these issues. It is just...

Excellent Bible!

This is an excellent Bible for upper elementary kids. We give this Bible out to our 3rd graders every year and use it in our children's ministry classes. I can understand the reviewer who is worried about some of the "Sticky Situations". However, the reality is that most upper elementary aged kids are already starting to think about most of these things or will be very soon. The "Sticky Situations" are well done and useful...

A great Bible for any kid!

This Bible is arranged and translated in a way that will allowkids to study on their own or with family and friends. Also, with themany features of this Bible, kids will be able to read about certain people more in depth, apply Biblical principles in their lives, and start thinking about theological issues. This is a great Bible for any child, whether they have been raised in church or are just beginning.

Easy to read for Young and Old

I own several Bible translations and find this to be best for helping new & seasoned readers get the "thought" of the Author. The Living Bible version seeks to get the message thru in todays language without reducing the power of divine inspiration.
