"There are high stakes and high money, reckless ambition and reckless love, with an ending you won't forget..." This description may be from another edition of this product.
Though I'm not a huge fan of steamy novels, this book intrigued me because of its setting in the music business. The story begins with the rise of an Elvis-like performer (the "Chief"), and continues with the story of his daughter Laura, a Lisa Marie Presley type who runs his estate "Musicland." Here's the eerie part: though published in the mid '80's, the book seems to foreshadow a disastrous real-life celebrity marriage. "Laura" is a target for every crazed fan of her late father's, including a man who wants to marry her (in spite of his own homosexuality) just to be "closer" to the object of his obsession, the Chief. The parallels hit very close to home!
