The young soldiers of the Echo Company finally get a break and go on stand down in Chu Lai after spending the new year somewhere in the jungle of Vietnam. This description may be from another edition of this product.
"Stand Down" continues the story of Michael, first introduced in "Welcome to Vietnam" as an 18-year-old Colorado boy drafted into the Army to fight in a war he doesn't like or truly understand. In "Tis the Season," a horrifying ordeal brought Army nurse Rebecca Phillips into Michael's life. Now he can't get her out of his mind, and he's determined to see her again. For once, luck is on Michael's side as his squad learns they'll be going on a stand-down...on the base where Rebecca's hospital is located. So confident of his feelings for her, he never really considered that she might not feel the same way. But the day the two met is the most tragic of Rebecca's life. She can't get the gruesome events out of her mind, and seeing Michael only forces her to remember all the more. Yet at the same time, Michael could possibly be the only one who understands what Rebecca went through, and helps her to come to terms with the tragedy...as well as her own self. This book is the fourth in a four-part series - five, if you count "The Road Home," which was written under Ellen Emerson White and concludes the story of Michael and Rebecca.
There's a FIFTH book in the series!

Zack Emerson (actually Ellen Emerson White) is one of the finest young adult author's around. What a realistic view of Vietnam! Her gritty style makes you care about the characters...and guess what? THERE IS A SEQUEL/COMPANION BOOK TO THIS SERIES! "The Road Home", written as Ellen Emerson White continues the saga of ECHO COMPANY. If you loved this series like I did, I'm sure you'll be thrilled to read more. White ties up a lot of loose ends with this 450 page novel!

This book was really hard to find, but I finally did, and I loved it! You really have to read the first 3 Echo Company Books to understand it though. It's probably the happiest of the series. I loved it@
