This has got to be one of my favorite series is this year after Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. This was such a wild ride, my heart's still pounding from the action. And my mind is still whirling from the intrigue of Angel's (a.k.a Stake's,) world.
While Angel may not be the best role model, I can understand how her life went off the tracks after her best friend had an accident and is in a vegetative state, (after witnessing vampires kill a man in front of them.) That would send me on a revenge filled war path too.
The action scenes are beautifully drawn, the main fighter, and Angel's mentor and partner in stopping crime, Jessamy, is awesome at what she does, and looks dang good doing it. As stated, the art is gorgeous! The main body is black-and-white with pops of color making the pages come alive.
I love books that can make the supernatural feel so real, that if I walk out my door right now I could bump into a vampire on the street, that is what stake does for me. This is one series I am "staking" with till the bitter end!... okay, that's a lame pun, but the sentiment still stands.
I am highly looking forward to the next volume of Stake and any other comics made in her world.
