Useful Introduction

Scott Hoezee's book SPEAKING AS ONE is a reworking of Cornelius Plantinga Jr.'s A PLACE TO STAND. Hoezee introduces the creeds with bite sized information on their historical backgrounds, theological concerns, and modern relevancy. While any book about such a major topic is bound to simplify issues, Hoezee does a good job of giving the essentials. The book discusses the Apostolic, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds. The margins of every page are dotted with interesting facts to spur the reader on to more learning, and each chapter finishes with a summary of points for reflection, as well as thought provoking discussion questions. To conclude, I would submit that this book is a very useful introduction to the early church creeds that is suitable for educational purposes.

Very helpful

I read this book in preparation for one of our RCIA classes (I am a catechist). This was very helpful to me and taught me quite a bit about the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.
