Not happy

My description of acceptable said clean throughout and just cover is worn however when I recieved the book it has pen writing throughout a lot of the book. It is unusable!

excellent book for beginners

I teach Spanish to all levels, and I use this book above all others. The book is very good for beginners. The explanations are easy to understand. This book is perfect for those that have either had some Spanish and have forgotten much of it or for those to boost their Spanish after the first year. Since there is no recording, it is not recommended to be used on its own. I especially love how the beginning chapter lets you realize how many words you already know in Spanish just because of the similarities between English and Spanish. The progressions is easy to follow. Ar verbs are presented in Chapter four after the pronouns were presented in chapter 3. There are simple readings that go along with the vocabulary and there is a small cultural section in each chapter.

Caution . . .

I purchased Spanish is Fun and the workbook. I was looking for a home study course in Spanish and this is not it. I think if you're in a classroom situation the book would be wonderful. You need a Teacher's Manual and Key to get the answers for all quizzes and unit tests to make this useful as a home study course.

Esta libro es bueno!

I received this book when I began my Spanish as a Second Language class at my church. It is definitely a very helpful guide, complete with a nice translation dictionary in the back, and lots of helpful exercises. There is a lot of repetition throughout the book to help the reader practice and retain knowledge from earlier chapters. This is especially useful when it comes to verb conjugations. I only really have one problem with this book. The problem is the pictures. Nearly all of the pictures are hand-drawn, and some of them are hard to understand. For instance, the drawings for the verbs "to learn,"" to approach," and "to understand" are not clear. Otherwise, me gusta!

A good foundation builder for beginning Spanish

I was introduced to this book as part of an adult/community education course on conversational Spanish that I took just after moving to San Antonio, Texas. This text does live up to its title by making the Spanish learning experience fun (and painless), even for students -- older as well as young -- with little or no prior exposure to Spanish. Although I have several other lesson books, I keep returning to this one for self-study and review. The lessons follow a clear and logical sequence that builds on the lessons before it. The cultural capsules are interesting, and the sections on conversation and dialog are useful tools for practice. The practical exercises help reinforce each lesson. I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning Spanish and who wants a solid starting place to begin. Spanish Is Fun is a great foundation builder and a "keeper" for later review.
