Superb storytelling

Riding through Texas, Skye Fargo, isn't looking for trouble, but Johnny Lobo and his gang of bushwhackers give him some for free. Fargo barely escapes with his skin intact. Lobo isn't happy about that, he wants Fargo's blood. And soon it becomes clear a family struggling to raise a mustang herd are involved too and Fargo finds himself fighting to save more than just his own life. When you first begin to read this book you feel it's just a simple, well told, storyline. But then you relize this is a Trailsman book and it isn't long before the questions start coming and a twist is thrown into the plot. The characters are first rate, particularly Johnny Lobo, there's an outlaw that makes you wonder as to his motives! There's plenty of action, a nail-biting confrontation between Fargo and a javelina that's nearly the death of the Trailsman. Also Fargo gets to fight with a weapon I can't remember him using before during the final showdown. Another great entry into this long-running series.

It never pays to make The Trailsman angry!

In this July 2006 episode of The Trailsman ,we find Skye Fargo roaming through south east Texas between San Antinio and Corpus Christie,in and around the little town of Dinero ,and along the Nueces River. The saga takes place in 1860,just before "The War Between The States" .It is extremely rough country and it is a hard task to get established and eek out a living from the unforgiving landscape. To make matters worse, a large gang of owlhoots, led by of all things ,a lovestruck, vicious and loco Pirate who is missing a lot more than his boat. In an attempt to have his way with everybody and everything around him;he miscalculates what it means to take on our hero Skye Fargo;particularly when he gets him really mad. In most good westerns a slaughter is something that is done by the "bad guys" ;but here we see the tables getting turned. When The Pirate leaves Fargo, tied up,naked, injured, and unarmed to be attacked by a notorious Javelina;it seems that Fargo has finally met his match. Don't fret. If you know The Trailsman, all you've done is get him mad and determined to straighten out this mess. The story is filled with lots of action, great characters, especially,Johnny Lobo,Juliana and her sisters,an old coot named Rooster;and some great descriptions and appropriate sayings. How's this for great writing; "I keep it,the padre said,to remind myself that even in the most tainted of souls, there may yet be found a ray of light." "I wouldn't want to risk my life on any ray of light found in Johnny Lobo's soul." said Fargo "Father Pascual sighed,"You are right about that,my son.Sooner or later, all candles...go out." Another excellent tale in the ongoing Trailsman series.
