ADULTS ONLY

YOU CAN TELL A GUY WROTE THIS BOOK!(CHUCKLE) REGARDLESS, IT WAS A GOOD,SOLID HORROR STORY THAT I THINK WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE A DECENT MOVIE IF DONE RIGHT!

The dark side of teenage romance

With seemingly half the horror novels out there involving vampires or other forms of the undead, it's always refreshing to read a book that features an underused but still "classic" monster. It's even better if the book itself is a good one, such as in Bryan Smith's Soultaker. The monster in this case is a lamia, a half-snake, half-human demon that has been--in some form or another--been the subject of folklore for thousands of years. In this case, the lamia has taken on the human form of a teenage girl named Myra Lewis. Myra appears to just be a goth outsider, but she has quickly attracted Trey McAllister and soon literally owns his soul, forcing him to commit heinous acts. Small-time horror writer Jake McAllister knows all the genre cliches, such as the homecoming of the hero to the small town he thought he'd left behind forever. Not that he thinks of himself as a hero, but Jake has been drawn back to town when he hears Trey is in trouble. It soon becomes clear that Trey is just one symptom of a bigger issue. Myra has created a cult around her, with female followers who are willing to do anything: mothers are willing to kill their sons and sisters are willing to seduce their brothers. Along with a few others, Jake must stop Myra before she reaches her objective, namely to feed on the souls of most of the town to sustain her own immortality. With lots of sex and violence (even for a horror novel), this is not a book for the squeamish, but for others, Smith will keep the reader entertained. It is not perfect--for example, the final twist is rather obvious--but overall, this will be a pleasure for most horror readers.

RIDE THE WAVE!!

Trey McAllister is the typical All American high school boy, popular, good looking, has a real future ahead of him. He's the kind of guy that girls adore and the other guys envy. There's just one small problem--he's dating Myra, a demon. Not just another Goth girl with fierce PMS, we're talking a real live demon!! Enter into the mix, Trey's big brother, Jake, who left town several years ago and never looked back. However, a frantic plea from his deadbeat mom about his baby brother has brought him back into the fold. But what kind of mess is he stepping into? Jake's baby brother, Trey isn't the only fly in Myra's web. The townsmen, one by one are slowly being sucked into her trap and the women are just as eager, willing sexual partners in Myra's plan, hoping for immortality. To say anymore would be scandalous, but mark my words--BRYAN SMITH is a writer to watch out for. With each book he turns out, he just gets better and better. The prose is sharper than a two edged sword or a rusty nail:) Take your pick. SOULTAKER IS A KEEPER, FRIENDS!!
