Utterly delightful!

This is the third Archer novel that I have read and I find it the best so far. Started with the Eleventh Commandment, then Not a Penny More...(which I found long in the tooth). Personally I think this would make a great screenplay. The story is totally fiction and unrealistic and I loved that about it. Archer has you rooting for both main characters all the way through. It has that Horatio Algier good feeling to it because other than a few well placed "bad guys" the story is all about the "good guys". No sudden plot twists that authors feel they must all utilize these days. Just a great feel good story. If you like your fiction plausible then you won't like this, but if you like a good ol' yarn with lovable characters then I think you'll love this one.

Sons of Fortune

The BEST book I've read all year! And I have read alot of books!I recommend this to anyone.

exciting start to finish

I just finished listening to the unabridged version of Sons of Fortune and loved it. I haven't read any of his since Kane and Abel many years ago but will definitely read or listen to more of his in the future. I was just sorry the twins true identity was'nt revealed until the final chapters of the book.

A COMPELLING READING

Ace voice performer Paul Michael gives a compelling reading to British author/politician Jeffrey Archer's latest foray into the lives of men and a nation. Action begins in Hartford, Connecticut, when twin brothers are born and then abruptly separated. It is the 1950s, and one boy, Nat Cartwright, is sent home with his mother, a school teacher, and his insurance salesman father. Apparently beginning life on an entirely different path, his brother, Fletcher Davenport, becomes the son of a wealthy man and his society wife. As the years pass, Nat attends a state university which he leaves to serve in Vietnam. Upon the end of the war he returns to college to earn an MBA. Fletcher, on the other hand, has gone to Yale where he earned a law degree. Success as a criminal lawyer comes easy for him, as does a later Senate race. Each survives the ups and downs that life has to offer before they both contemplate running for governor, still totally unaware that they are brothers. Will they discover the truth and, if so, how will they be affected? - Gail Cooke

I Think For Myself

I am glad that I ignored quite a few reviews of this book. I found it to be quite wholesome and interesting. It is refreshing to read a modern novel without all the vulgar language that most authors today feel nessessary to inject. I am from the South and have been in Connecticut only on one occasion. It was a beautiful state. I only wish I could have seen more of it.The book is fiction to say the least. I can't imagine this plot in real life, however, it is possible. I thought Archer probably dug down deep to come up with the numerous plots. I especially liked the courtroom discourses and arguments. It was quite believable. The election process was fascinating. I seem to remember this method of counting ballots from the last presidential election. I was wondering throughout the book, how it would end. I was completely taken back with the surprise ending. I was afraid that it would be 'onesided', but Archer managed to pull it of well. I still like his work and will continue to read more of Jeffrey Archer in the future.
