I really enjoyed this book. I think that David Roper is a very good writer. It taught me so many things about The Songs of Solomon that I did not know. It is for married or single people. Not to many people touch on this book so I am glad that I bought it because I have always been interested in The Songs of Solomon.
Superb and pefectly balanced

David Roper has always been my favorite Old Testament expositor. I have known him and followed his ministry for four decades. During the same time period I have collected commentaries on the Song of Solomon. This one is, in my opinion, by far the best! A recent rash of "de-spiritualized" commentaries are on the market--many seem to me to be in the same league as the Hindu Kamasutra. Roper puts the central focus where it ought to be, on the plain and direct emphasis of the text on marital love. But he also allows for allegorical levels that appeal immediately to the single, the divorced, and the ordinary believer who would simply like to enjoy a more intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Instead of a verse by verse commentary, he lets the text speak for itself. Roper offers very helpful notes on a separate page, with a wonderful forward and afterword on Biblical values concerning sexuality, purity, holiness and love.
