Intriguing! Heartwarming! A Must Read!

Home, after a long time away, veterinarian Randi Meyers is attending the funeral of a distant relative when she is begged by a young boy to help his sister. Kay Newcombe, the young boy's sister, has injured herself while on a walk through the woods. When Randi turns to thank the young boy, he's nowhere to be found. Where did he go? And why? What mysterious circumstances surround his disappearance? Kay, with her leg now in a cast, is unable to work. Randi, who feels an unexplainable need to help Kay, takes her back with her to stay at her apartment. What is it about Kay that is attracting Randi? Both women, burned by ex-lovers, nevertheless begin to form an easy friendship. Easy that is, until one of their ex's decides to make an appearance? Whose ex has showed up? Why now? Do they pose a threat? If so, how far will they go to win? Will this keep a friendship from possibly turning into something more? When Randi makes a "house call" for a dog too injured to travel, she is fired from her job. The dog's owner finds this out and promises she will make it right. How? And why was Randi's boss so upset over the house call to begin with? Carrie Carr is a terrific writer, displaying that fact in her earlier books, Destiny's Bridge, Faith's Crossing, Hope's Path, Love's Journey, and Strength of the Heart. She again proves right on target with a new heartwarming book of two unlikely women who meet under dire circumstances, form a friendship and face all life has to throw at them, together. Something to Be Thankful For is a book more than capable of standing on its own!

twists and turns just keep you guessing

Excellent, thought provoking story line with wonderful flawed characters. The story line grabs you from the first paragraph and doesn't turn you loose until the last page, which you don't want to come. The twists and turns just keep you guessing and I have to admit, that K was my my kinda gal. Although much different from her Lex stories, it has such depth that you really can enjoy a new hopefully many more stories on these new characters. I love it when you read a book and the thought pattern is so well planned out and put into action by bright crisp wording. Highly recommended read.

Great character development with flaws really touch you.

Randi is intrigued by Kay. Who is this unusual woman? Where did her little brother disappear to? And why does Randi feel compelled to help her? Despite living in different cities, a tentative friendship forms, but Randi is hesitant. Can she trust her newfound friend? How much of her life and feelings can Randi reveal? And what secrets is Kay keeping from her? Read the book and get the answers. Carr has written a great new novel and it will thrill you from the first page to the last. She throws in a few little insecurities that all of us face and she does it very well. This will be a pernmanent place on your bookcase and one of your all time favorites. I don't normally agree with any of the grossly onesided reviews that Lori Lake does, but on this book, I do, for Carr has really hit the mark and has earned a full solid five star rating.

Crisp and Fresh with Both Humor and Pathos

Veterinarian Randi Meyers of Fort Worth, Texas, is single and lonely. She loves animals and works hard at her job, but she wants someone with whom to share her life. She has given up finding anyone, though, especially in the wake of the last bad relationship she had. So when she travels to her hometown for a funeral, she isn't expecting to find an unconscious woman in the woods near the cemetery nor does she expect to form an attachment to the injured woman...but she does. Kay Newcombe comes from a terrible hardscrabble background, but she is trying to pull herself out of the abuse and poverty of the past. Neither woman has much hope for anything more than an acquaintance. They come from different worlds and with mountains of baggage. Do they have a hope of finding something together? And what about the echoes from their pasts which threaten their newfound friendship?Fans of Carr's Lex/Amanda series will be thrilled to see that the author has written this stand-alone book about two new characters. The writing is crisp and fresh with both humor and pathos sprinkled throughout. It's an excellent story about two women who've gone through the School of Hard Knocks. You can't help but root for Kay and Randi as they try to make sense of their lives. This is Carrie Carr's best novel yet, and I highly recommend it.--Lori L. Lake, Midwest Book Review

Fantastic Romance/Drama

This is the first book that I have read from this author and I am greatly impressed. After reading the opening chapter, I felt as if I was home again. Everyone who reads this will be able to relate to the characters. Whether it be to Randi & Kay personally, to their families or to their workplaces. I really enjoyed how you never knew from one moment to the next what their ex's were up to. All of the characters are richly drawn and real to life. Unlike many books written these days you really do not know how it will end. Will they admit their feelings for each other? And if they do, will they still in the end to back to their ex's out of guilt or fear? This book is a roller coaster ride that I highly recommend. Kudos.
