All of humanity ought to read this book

I read "Something Beautiful Happened" in three days. Tears were silently forming in my eyes as I came to the last page. Why? Because I also wonder, as did the author, if our country has really learned anything from the years of the Jewish Holocaust. One can know about it and believe that because it is "over" such an evil cannot ever happen again. I listen to the world news, to politics, and hear of shootings, hate crimes and children living in dysfunctional or seemingly normal family lives yet they shoot teachers, friends, schoolmates. I do believe that it can happen again. Yvette's book was like a physical walk into the lives of the Jewish people, their horrible losses of family, of survivors too traumatized and fearful of the German Nazis to talk about the horror of the death camps, even the terror of hiding Jews from the Nazis. Yvette writes with deep respect for the Jews and the good people who put their lives in jeopardy by hiding Jews during the war. She writes in her book that love, kindness, and goodness must be recognized in those who "do the right thing" and not allow fear to keep us from making morally right decisions. Thank you, Yvette, for showing us through your beautiful writing that hatred toward others can only bring about destruction and a repeat of history. We must all be vigilant; and, in our freedom, we must recognize that whatever our faith journey is, we respect each person's belief system and live with peace, love and kindness.

Good, but not super memorable

I finished this book 4 or 5 months ago and I gotta say that I don't really remember much about it, therefore, to me, it's not very memorable. I did like it, I didn't set it down and forget about it, but other than a few details about the island of Corfu which I already knew, it wasn't one of those very captivating books you remember for the rest of your life.

excellent read

Learned a lot of history which relates to our DNA. Have bought numerous copies for my family. Love this author.
