It's snowing on Tuesday. The streets and the Quonset hut have a light snow covering. On Wednesday Jack peeks out of the hut. "Snow day? He asks hopefully. The trucks inside the hut are anxious to go and are waiting for the radio to beep and signal that it is time to move out. All of a sudden Ted's radio comes alive and starts to beep. "Snow day!" The trucks are all excited and ready to roll! Jack, Max, Gabby, Kat, Melvin, Pete and even Izzy are out on the streets preparing to clear the snow. Izzy is an ice cream truck and Jack says to him "not on a snow day," but all the rest are out to do their jobs. "Ready? Set? Snow day!" They are going to clear the streets. They skate and slide as if they are playing hockey. Melvin, the cement mixer, makes a snow truck and Big Rig mows it down. They even have a snowball fight. It's all in a day's work and they keep working. "We cleared ALL the streets." This is a Level 1, "Starting to Read" book. The story is fun and lively and the zany illustrations are sure to appeal to truck lovers, especially those who love to watch the plows go by on a snowy day. It would even have great appeal to the emergent reader as the visuals tell this lively story almost as well as the words do. If you're having a snow day in your town this is the perfect book to read until you can get to school again!
