Christian Romance with a Horsey Background!

How refreshing to read a Christian Romance novel with an accurate horse setting! Deborah Vogts has written a memorable story about a female veterinarian and a rancher's son in Snow Melts in Spring. Mattie Evans loves the Flint Hills of Kansas and attempts to build a practice there. A local rancher, John McCray, asks her to save a severely injured horse that is owned by his son and was hit by a car. Gil is estranged from his father and plays on a national football team. But he plans to retire and start a horse ranch in California. His goals change when he arrives home and meets Mattie. They both have to overcome personal obstacles, both physical and emotional, before they can accept their strong feelings for each other.

Wonderful Debut Novel...

Mattie Evans is a vet in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Though her family lost their land she still calls it home. Nothing can make her leave the Flint Hills or can it? Gill McCray grew up in the Flint Hills but difficult memories caused him to leave and become a quarterback for the 49ers. Nothing will make him return to Flint Hill, or is there? When Gil's horse, Dusty, is hit by a drunk driver, Mattie is called to help. She recommends the horse be put down but John McCray (Gil's estranged father) encourages Mattie to do everything she can to save the horse. When Gil returns home for a weekend visit to check on the horse he meets Mattie and sparks fly. I loved this story and not because I'm a fellow Kansan. But because the story was filled will real people that could easily be living in the Flint Hills right now. Deborah's writing style makes you want to keep turning pages. The story is packed with lots of character interaction which I love. She also allows you to see inside each character's thoughts which is always intriguing to me. This is Deborah's debut novel but it reads like a seasoned author. This comes highly recommended. Can't wait for "Seeds of Summer". Great job Deborah!!!

Snow Melts in Spring

Deborah weaves a spellbinding story, using her love and knowledge of the Flint Hills of Kansas and horses to create believable characters and plot. Her story is well written about people any of us might know in our neighborhood. I'm ready to read the next book in the series.

Outstanding read!

Kansas author, Deborah Vogts, writes realistic and closeup scenes in this first of a new series. A gentle romance takes place in the Flint Hills of Kansas. The smells, sights and sounds throughout the book register quick and clear to the reader. The characters are charming, strong and at times, stubborn. A great mix. I finished the book within 24 hours of possession. I'll be in line to purchase the next book in this series as soon as it hits the market.

Great debut novel!

Deborah Vogts has garnered a place on my must-read list with this compelling debut novel! The setting for Snow Melts in Spring captured the unique beauty of Kansas' Flint Hills as wonderfully as this story and Vogts' characters captured my heart. I can't wait for the rest of the series to release.
