Funniest golf book I've read

What a terrific book. It takes an average golfer -- and a talented writer -- to pen stories like this. They're as heartfelt as they are hilarious, and the best part about them is that I was constantly nodding along while laughing my face off. It was as though Schecter has watched me play and is describing my golf game instead of his! But that's why this book is so funny -- the frustrations faced by average golfers are universal, and I.J. Schecter helps us forget those frustrations by turning them into laughter -- and lots of it!

Belly laughs galore

One of my regular golfing partners bought me this book after he'd read it, and he couldn't have gotten me a better book about the grand old game. I'm in the middle of watching Tiger and the other elite golfers do their thing at the British Open right now and laughing loudly at all of the hilarious observations in I.J. Schecter's book about, um, we other golfers, the kind who usually don't have a prayer of breaking 100, never mind resembling anything like the guys who do it for a living. Most golf writers are all about curing your slice and how to make the long putts and that sort of thing. Schecter gets the most important fact, that if you can't laugh at golf, and how you play it, you might as well not. This guy is a really, really funny writer who isn't afraid to laugh at himself, and therefore allows the reader to laugh at himself along with him. If I had the bucks I'd buy a copy of this for every single golfer I know.

Laughs from start to finish!

This collection had me laughing right away and didn't stop until I finished the last page. I.J. Schecter's insights into golf, especially the way he describes the, um, amusing moments we all go through on the course, made me laugh so hard that I had to put down the book multiple times. Truly talented writers make it look easy, especially humor writers, and Schecter certainly falls into that category. I strongly recommend "Slices" to anyone looking for some great belly-laughs.

Wow!

This is one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. I laughed out loud more than once while reading every one of the 30 stories. Some of them made me laugh out loud multiple times. I bought the book for a friend of mine who's obsessed with golf and started flipping through it myself, and then I couldn't put it down. This is great reading for anyone and any time!

Hilarious

This book is laugh-out-loud funny. Every story cracked me up, especially the one about Uncle Hugh and the one about the difference between one's game on the range and how it falls apart on the first tee without fail. I went through it in one sitting. I always rate books based on the couldn't-put-it-down factor. Slices gets top marks.
