Book Overview

Once defined by her career and independence, stay-at-home mom Samantha Friedman realizes her life has become a routine of errands, car pools and suburban gossip. She deals with a husband who shows up for dinner but is too preoccupied for conversation, an increasingly moody daughter who won't talk at all, and wonders, Is this it? Since finding out she was adopted, seventeen-year-old Cammy Friedman has felt like an outsider. Unwilling to reach out to...

Amazing book!

I loved, loved, loved this book! Could not put it down. Characters were very well developed and relatable. I have to disagree with one of the other reviewers - I thought the ending was incredible. Totally unpredictable and very moving, to say the least. Three cheers for Elizabeth Flock. Can't wait for her next book!

haunting

Sleepwalking in Daylight draws you in immediately. I couldn't put it down. This book will entertain you; make you think; make you cry. It's a window into seemingly perfect marriages that may seem enviable on the surface and to the longterm damage a parent can do. It is a perfect Spring Break book!

Engrossing read!

Sleepwalking in Daylight forces you to evaluate your own life, marriage and parenting. The characters are so absorbing that you wonder "what are they up to" even when you are not reading the book. The mother, Samantha, is in a funk with her life and her marriage. She seems to be the "into-it-mom", but you realize she is missing something important in her parenting. She is aware of the dramatic changes in her adopted teenage daughter's behavior and dress, but she mostly complains to her daughter, Cammy and spins her parenting wheels. The climax is rivetting and forces you to think could this happen in my household?

This could be you...

As a stay at home mom and mother of five, I was completely engrossed in Sleepwalking in Daylight. Elizabeth Flock has an uncanny way of writing from the heart of her characters, specifically Samantha, the sleepwalking mom and Cammy, the adopted daughter who is searching for love and acceptance in all the wrong ways. The ending is haunting, yet any other ending would not have done the book justice. It's a wake-up call to all of us parents who can relate so well to what is happening in this family that looks so "perfect" to everyone else. We all know the power a computer can have on you, making you ignore the important things you should be doing instead. We know the teenage attitudes we have to deal with where it's easier to send them to their rooms and keep the door shut between you. We know the stresses we feel about our husbands, our boredom, our exhaustion, our lives. It's our lives. But this book captures the realities of what can happen if we don't watch out. If we don't stop sleepwalking. It's a must read for everyone.

I loved this book!!

I stayed up late into the night for two nights in a row reading this book -- I couldn't put it down! it's excellent! This book is about you and me and everyone we know. There were times throughout it where I actually wondered if the author somehow secretly taped conversations I have had with my girlfriends! I've read Elizabeth Flock's other books -- I loved Me & Emma, don't get me wrong, and But Inside I'm Screaming was GREAT but this book is FANTASTIC. I'm a stay-at-home mom and have been married for fourteen years and I could relate to SO MUCH of what Samantha, the main character, thinks or feels. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with what she has to deal with but even when she's going through events I can't imagine, I felt like I could still relate to her. Somehow Elizabeth Flock switches between the mother (Samantha) and the teenaged daughter (Cammy) so easily you forget one person wrote both of them. All the characters are REAL. Like people who live next door to you, or are in book club with you or share car pool...she slips into the heads of everyone so well! I'm telling everyone I know about Sleepwalking in Daylight. And I already have my book club reading it for April. You'll love it, too, I promise!!
