Sleep apnea disrupts the lives of millions of unsuspecting victims. Their struggle to breathe during sleep is a major cause of daytime sleepiness, accidents, poor health, lost years of productivity... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Pros:
1. It's comprehensive book- patient education which is lacking a lot in CPAP therapy now 2024 from the doctor appt, to lab study, to results, getting CPAP and follow up visits.
2. I loved the frequently asked questions section on CPAP and Making CPAP work for You
3. They compared all the different treatments and CPAP was gold standard then and still is today
Cons
1. Statistics are from the 90s, but issues still same as back then
2. The face masks + CPAP machines references are ancient like 20 years ago - thankfully masks and machines have come a long way
3. You can get better Sleep Log via Google
4. There are better websites now then what's listed.
5. Some of the patient education part is available on YouTube on short 10 min clips.
If you enjoy reading a textbook with case studies, you will love this manual for patients with sleep apnea. It's a good reference guide.
If you got a doctor that don't explain nothing, you left confused, has a big ego about his title, gas lights you...well this book is for you.
extremely helpful

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea recently. A sleep specialist friend recommended this book and I must say it is full of solid information that is useful in understanding sleep apnea. I particularly appreciated the section where many questions, concerns, difficulties about sleep apnea and the CPAP machines are discussed. Rather than always having to contact my sleep center doctor or the medical equipment company, answers were found in this book. I would buy it again or suggest to anyone with sleep apnea.

A must-have book for anyone who has been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. All of the questions that you will forget to ask your doctor will be answered somewhere in this informative volume. Also great if someone close to you has apnea. This book should be included with every CPAP machine at delivery. MRM

I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and use CPAP. In order to be more involved with my own treatment I purchased four books on the subject to gain as much insight as possible. This is without a doubt the most informative. It describes the condition, compares it to normal sleep patterns and gives nearly encyclopedic information on treatments and what you can do to help yourself. I highly recommend this book.
VERY useful book

Lots of good information, presented in clear language. One of the authors is a patient, and I found his comments particularly helpful - especially his notes about how we ALL hate the CPAP equipment, but there are good reasons to continue to struggle with it, to explore better options, etc.... because the tradeoff for better sleep, better quality of life, and better prognosis for longterm wellness, make it worth while. Lots of pictures, excellent explanations throughout. Highly recommended.

A week before my first sleep study, I got this book -- and all I can say is "Thank God for the information in there." It is written in "english" that I understand - not "doctor-ease"! I went to my first sleep study knowing what to expect. I went to the second one knowing what to expect. I went for my pulmonologist appointment, knowing what to ask and look at with my hypnogram (a word that I learned from the book and then used with my doctor, and he was astonished!!!) The experience of being on the CPAP machine for the first 15 days was very easy for me, as this book answered questions that I didn't even know to ask! And the FAQ's still are helping as I reach my 6 month anniversary with my CPAP! If you even suspect you have Sleep Apnea - this is the book for you!!!!
