Impressive and memorable images

"Skylines of The World: Yesterday And Today" showcases physical profiles of 49 major cities from around the world - including eight American cities. From the sentinels of ancient Jerusalem, Athens and Rome, to the medieval steeple of Munich and Budapest, to the splendor of Renaissance Florence and Venice, to the metropolitan cities of London, Paris, Stockholm, Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, and more, "Skylines Of The World" presents each distinct city in terms of its particular adaptation to the landscape in which it occurs. Offering impressive and memorable images of steel and glass profiles, bird's-eye-views, historical photographs, and maps reflecting each city's distinct character, the photography of James Blakeway and Chris Gjevre is consistently enhanced with the informed and informative text of the historian M. Hill Goodspeed. Also very highly recommended for academic and community library collections is the companion volume, "Skylines: American Cities yesterday And Today (Hugh Lauter Levin Associates, 2005).

My son's favorite Christmas gift

My 11 year old son is very interested in large world cities and especially those with lots of skyscrapers. I was very happy to find this book as it was right up his alley. The large, clear, full-color aerial photographs of each city are incredibly beautiful and provide a view that most people would never get to see in person. The index at the bottom of each 2-page photo spread also provides the names and some great information about key buildings or monuments shown in the photo. This book was my son's favorite item he received for Christmas this year and it's one that we'll both enjoy for many years to come.
