Skye Fargo and his faithful companion, Ovaro, have just come into Gila City, outside Yuma, where the Gila River merges with the Colorado. They are both tired and dusty after a couple of days travel,on their way to California. It is 1861, and this little mining town is just hanging on by a thread. The first thing that Fargo sees is an old man come flying out backward ,through the doors of The Pine Tree saloon. Skye, one not to let someone be treated this way, soon becomes involved in an adventure that is filled with all the fast action intrigue and action common in The Old West in these rough and tumble times. We get shootouts with white men as well as Apaches. The whole story comes about because of prospecting for gold in a canyon on Apache land that the Apaches believe to be haunted and of great traditional importance. Things keep going from bad to worse for all involved;the prospector, his grandaughters,a tribe of Apaches, owlhoots and claimjumpers. Although Fargo, not one to believe in ghosts, has a tough time getting to the bottom of the situation. A great yarn, lots of action, and well developed and interesting characters.
