"The only thing permanent in his life was the wanderlust that gripped him.Even now he felt those stirrings, the urge to heed the call of the wild, distant places." This episode finds Skye Fargo in Texas Hill Country in 1860.He meets up with a young lady who has decided to leave Philadelphia to take up a new life as a schoolteacher in Bandera,Texas. It seems that someone tries to kill her in San Antonio, so just to make sure she arrives safely in Bandera,Fargo decides to accompany her to her destination. Although the town is looking forward to her starting a school, others have different ideas. This results in a confrontation involving shootouts, ambushes, attempts to blow up the school, fights against all odds in alleys, barooms, and muontains, the burning of buildings etc.,before our hero gets to the bottom of the troublemakers. It's a story with lots of characters, good, bad and otherwise. Not much in the way of historical happenings, and not particularly filled with good western parlance, but a story that grips the reader from start to finish. No doubt,by the time the troublemakers are dealt with, the little town of Bandera is well on its way to becoming a great little place with some people getting back to reality and their lives back to order.
