This is the first book I have read by this author. This book put me through a lot emotions. Happy, sadness, frustration. Through it all I really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.

Cynthia is the sweet innocent preacher's daughter of Dead Wood, SD whom rescues a Lakota brave named Red Wolf from the town's unjustified lynching. For her Christian nature she is ridiculed and learns first hand how much hate the whites harbor in their hearts. Later she is captured by a group of vengeful Lakota Warriors and carried off to Red Wolf's camp. Here she opens her soul to the Lakota Nation and her heart to Red Wolf's tender touch. The story is filled with adventure, war, and steamy sweet romance. Ms. Bittner included a lot of historical facts in this interesting read as she wrote how things really were between the whites and Indians of the plains. I appreciate the fact there was no jealous Indian maiden trying to steal her man back from the white virgin, instead she created the village women with respect and sympathy. There was no evil Lakota Warrior lusting after the captive girl and no braves fighting to take her from Red Wolf, instead she wrote the warriors realistically and loyal to one another. She also recreated the prejudice and abuse whites inflicted upon the return of captives. Anyhow it was good read and a romance not to be forgotten.

Written in the 1980's romance style, this book was eventful, sensual and descriptive. The hero and heroine are separated for an unexpectedly long period-- during which my interest in the book waned and I shelved it for a number of months. I'm glad I picked it back up, though, since the ending is truly worth the wait. I was most dismayed by the novel's insensitive portrayal of homosexuals, esp. a homosexual man with a sympathetic situation of his own. There are graphic descriptions of violence that can be horrifying. Bittner certainly seemed determined to turn the tables on Western revisionist history. The novel is most memorable for the romance, however, which is warm and well-developed.

Ilove this book so much that I bought it. I appreciate how the book talks about the Native Americans side.You find out that the white men were doing the wrong. The Indians had a very wonderful life that didn't need gold,money, perfume just natural resources. I reccomend it.
