GREAT

I just started using Shurley Grammar this year. Over the summer when I was looking over the program I thought, there is no way I can teach this. It seemed very confusing to me the way the student workbook was laid out. I called the store in which I purchased the program and I was too late to return it. So I decided since I spent $80.00 on it I might as well give it a try. We are on our 4th week into the program and I LOVE it!! I am using it for my third grader and my fifth grader, and it is perfect for both. My children love the jingles, and I love the fact there is no student workbook that they have to do worksheets in everyday. I highly recommend this program. Make sure to get the teachers manual if you decide to go with Shurley Grammar. You can not use the program without it. Also try to stay a couple of lessons ahead of your children, it can get confusing at times, so it is best to figure out what it's talking about before the lesson.

I'm beginning my fourth year with Shurley

I'm a homeschool mother with an intelligeng, but dyslexic son. I went through three high profile grammar curriculums before I heard about Shurley Grammar. All of a sudden, my son began to not only catch on to grammar, but show great aptitude for it. He feels competent and capable and he is. I consider this a minor miracle. This is the first time he has suceeded at grammar. There are two negatives. First I don't think level 1 should be started in first grade. I think you should begin in second or third grade depending on your child's reading skills. You can't really do grammar until you have some sort of ability to read well. This is not a problem, you will finish the series in plenty of time for highschool. Second, it takes some time getting used to. There are three books and you wind up flipping back and forth between the three. It took me about a month to figure out the system, but now I'm fixing to start my fourth year with the system and I no longer find it confusing. There is an organization to her books, but you do have to have the patience to learn it. Mrs. Shurley - whoever you are - great job!! You're books are fantastic.

It's never too late to learn grammar!

I got Shurley level 4 English to help teach my two oldest sons grammar and in the process I finally learned grammar myself! Level 4 Shurley is a great starting point in grammar even for an older student (I was 41:)... Shurley constantly reviews all grammar principles and has been likened to the Saxon method because of the excellent review.
