This book saved my butt!

I am a Cinema major at San Francisco State University, and one of the classes I'm in right now is "Film and the Holocaust." We watched Shoah in that class, and the final exam is based solely on that film. This book, which is a transcript of the entire film, word-for-word, is a CRUCIAL study aid for me. I don't know what I would have done without it. Thank you Claude Lanzmann for making this book availible to the public!!!!! Shoah: The Complete Text of the Acclaimed Holocaust Film

Witnesses to the Horror

Lantzman talks with a wide variety of people , including survivors and researchers of the Shoah, but also ordinary Poles even anti-Semites. There may seem a certain incoherence in the presentation but what emerges valuable evidence of the greatest Evil Mankind has ever committed against Man.

Good to use in schools.

Very powerful book. You will not need to see the film, although together they pack an emotional punch that will take you a long time to put behind you.

Valuable reference to a fascinating historically accurate movie

Interesting how the anti-semitic reviews posted below were unsigned. Shoah does not diminish the suffering of the other victims of the Nazis. It focuses on the tragedy that befell the Jews of Nazi-occupied Europe because while not all victims of the Nazis were Jews, All Jews were victims. Don't be deceived by the intellectually bogus ramblings below. See the movie and use the text for reference.

A very useful reference

This book is exactly what the title says -- the complete text of the Holocaust documentary, SHOAH, transcribed into a convenient printed form. A very valuable aid for anyone viewing the film or for teachers using it in a class. The book enables a discussion leader to re-read sections of the testimony for discussion, etc. without having to constantly re-wind the video. It's also a good book in itself, for those who prefer to read the words of the Holocaust survivors and witnesses from a book, rather than view them on the screen. Highly recommended!
