Both competent and complete.

The very word "Ships" as a title for a book must surely lie amongst one of the largest subjects ever chosen by any author. Of course, there are those who would not consider the full implications of using such a title and what it means to the unsuspecting reader. Others have taken similar all-encompassing titles and then left the reader short-changed as they failed to include all of the detail that such a title demands. This is not a book about warships, sailing ships or paddle steamers any more than it is a book about the Welsh coracle, the north American canoe, the galleon, tugboat, supertanker or cruise liner. It is about all of them and is put together in the order they were developed and used. If you ever wondered about ships, wanted to know the difference between a galleon, a galley and a galleass or simply wanted to know the make-up of the world's modern navies, then the answers to all your question (and a good many more) are found here. Once you've picked it up and checked one fact you are very likely to become totally seduced and find yourself unable to put the book down as you get sidetracked from one subject area to another, As I said, this is a complete and competent work and one where the translation from the original Spanish has been completed with equal competence. I am grateful for that. NM
