The Caterpillar's Wedding is an adorable children's story. My daughter and I read this at least once a day. It is one of her favorites, and she can recite the entire book. A caterpiller named Big John falls in love at first sight with a caterpiller named Josephina. Josephina goes off to look for a wedding dress. While she is gone, Big John disappears; there is nothing but a mysterious brown parcel on the ground. Josephina, distraught over John's disappearance, wraps herself in a leaf and cries for days. Suddenly, the brown parcel begins to wiggle and shimmy, and out pops Big John, who is now, of course, a very handsome butterfly. But wait, John cannot find Josephina. She, too, has mysteriously vanished, leaving just a brown parcel wrapped in a leaf. It is John's turn to be upset. All of the sudden, there is more wriggling and shaking, and out pops the most beautiful butterfly John has ever seen, dressed in the perfect wedding dress. He falls in love all over again, and John and Josephina are immediately married...just like that. This book is beautifully illustrated with bright colors, nice details, and a surprise pop-up at the end. And it is more than just a sweet story; my 2 year old now knows that caterpillers make cocoons, and become butterflies. She will tell you all about it, using the right words. "It is a metamorphosis, mom-mom," she tells me. What more could I ask for?
