Sharpshooter

David Healey has done an excellent job at his first attempt. This Civil War Novel puts you back to a time when the nation was in geat turmoil. He has created very belivable fictional characters. Lucas Cole is a person who you love to hate. David's grasp of that time period is extemely well put forth and it sends you back to that time. He also makes the story very plausable and is a good history lesson with fictional plot and characters. This book is hard to put down once started. Mr. Healey, a job well done!

Pageturner

My wife's book club somehow stumbled on this book and enjoyed it. I started reading it on Saturday morning and could not put it down. The vivid details and brilliant use of metaphors to convey the taste and smell of the Civil war kept me entranced from start to finish. Read it!

A great read!

This book was a fun read. Fast paced, very factual, yet because it was an original hypothetical premise it kept you reading on with suspense. It's historicaly acuarate descriptions and scenes make it a fun Civil War novel, unlike many Civil War novels that seem slow and read like a history book. Fans of historic fictions love to be educated and entertained at the same time, and this book delivers. Good simple Characterization and compelling plot made it a pleasure to plow through this authors first novel.

Outstanding and superb in its historical accuracy

Healey has done what few first-time novelists manage to accomplish. He's put together a compelling plot, an exceptional cast of characters, and he's spun the tale together with a strong thread of historical accuracy. From the first sentence until the last Healey displays his mastery of the history, the weapons, the personalities, and his craft. An absolute must-read for those even remotely interested in this period in history.

Excellent first novel. I want to see more from Mr. Healey

Being somewhat of a Civil War "buff" usually reading nonfiction I picked up Sharp Shooter on a whim after being attracted to Grant on the cover. I was plesantly surprised. Sharp Shooter is a decent first novel. It is sort of a Day of the Jackal in a Civil War setting. The characters are well developed and not one dimensional, showing both the good and bad sides that all individuals have. The only true "hero" of the story is Major Mulholland, but he also has a flaw that results in a burden he must carry the rest of his life. I won't reveal any more here as it would spoil the story. I hope Mr. Healey is at work on another novel. I am anxious to see his next offering.
