Dramatic text and vivid photographs provide readers with information on how these creatures live, eat and survive.(1995) This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book measures approx. 11in wide by 10in tall (28cm x 26cm). On those pages where there are photographs we find photographs and captions only. On those pages where there is text - there is text only. Having described this book as "exceedingly fine" - which it is, let me start with a criticism of this otherwise excellent work. On each page of text that text measures a very neat 6in x 5in and is placed in the centre of the page. This leaves a very large plain white margin on all sides. In fact the text actually occupies less than one third of the available paper on each page but is arranged so that it does not appear so. Why is this a criticism? The answer is simple. Marty Snyderman's work is so exceptionally good that I felt cheated in that all that unused page space could have been put to better use by including even more excellent photographs. Sorry Marty, but this is why I deducted one star. This is a book which will teach all people something about the Shark and most people an awful lot about this splendid creature. It is not a book which allows the author's photographs to dominate the important message contained in the text (we actually go 26 pages without a photograph at one point in the book). Those photographs that are included are both relevant and first class and just occasionally someone like me will say something like " Hey, I've been there, I did that, why are my photos not as good!"
