An Intriguing Glimpse Into 1920s Chicago

An intriguing, heartachingly beautiful look at the heart and various forms of love that drive each one of us! 1920s Chicago doesn't seem to end up on our fiction shelves very often, and what a shame! I so enjoyed the peek into the early life of the mafia, and the author's careful representation of right and wrong, and the way we so often convince ourselves which is which rather than turning to Christ and His standards. There were so many layers to so many characters, and they were all human - all in need of forgiveness and redemption - which made the story so relatable. I truly appreciated the theme of grace woven all throughout, and it can be summed up in my favorite quote from these pages: "People were never just what they did, or just where they found themselves. People were never just their sins." (As consistent with all my other book reviews I'll mention that this is more specifically Catholic Fiction rather than Christian Fiction.) Roaring Twenties

Shadowed Loyalty by Roseanna M. White is a stand-alone novel set during the Roaring Twenties. Sabina Mancari has always known that her father was a mob boss but she didn’t pay that much attention until she is caught in the cross-fire. Usually, stories are written from the perspective of outside of the Mafia looking in but this story is written from the inside looking out. To me this was a big departure from Ms. White’s usual writing style. I felt like this was more of a secular romance than a Christian one. There were quite a few romantic scenes and topics that went a little too far. Hopefully her next book goes back to the writing style that we have come to love. I received this book from the author for my honest review.

Shadowed Loyalty

I always love reading the latest releases by Roseanne M White and was excited to have the opportunity to read her newest, Shadowed Loyalty. It is was a little different than what I am used to by her but I still thought it was a pretty good read. I enjoyed going back in time to the Roaring Twenties in the mob ridden Chicago. I was quickly intrigued with Sabina and Enzo’s story. They made quite the duo and wanted to find out what would happened next. There were a scene or two that were a little slower paced than I liked but it quickly picked back up again. Overall it was a great read. I am giving Shadowed Loyalty four stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. As always, I look forward to reading more by Roseanna M White in the future. I received a digital copy of Shadowed Loyalty from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
