Manditory Christian Reading!

Sinclair Ferguson's "Sermon On the Mount" is one of my top 3 favorite books. Everyone who proclaims Christ as Lord should read this tome!

The Sermon on the Mount - Take Heed!!!

This is the first book I've read by Sinclair Ferguson and I was literally swept off my feet by his exposition of this profound Sermon on the Mount. Not only does Mr. Ferguson expound on it, but he digs deep and asks the kind of questions which are rarely asked in contemporary churches today. Revealing questions; probing questions; uncomfortable questions; convicting and assuring questions. He makes it clear that only Jesus Christ has ever lived the perfect life, and he also makes it clear that we need the power of Christ, through the Holy Spirit in order to live lives which are pleasing to God. Christ did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them, and Christians would do well to heed the Sermon and examine themselves. As Mr. Ferguson has stated, "we are all beggars in God's sight," and we need to cling to the Cross of Christ more than we know. A very sobering and instructive and inspirational read, and the kind of teaching which is so desperately needed from today's pulpits. Highly recommended!!!

Does the Sermon on the Mount speak to us today?

The Sermon on the Mount is one of the best known portions of all the Bible, and yet it is far from being the best understood part of the Bible. Misinterpretations of it abound. This is tragic, as it deals with important issues: "What is Christain character? What is the place of the law of God (if any) in the Christian life? Is discipline important? How should we pray? How can we be free from anxiety in an anxiety-ridden world? What is so wrong about a judgemental spirit?" Westminster Seminary professor Sinclair Ferguson makes clear to us what Jesus meant in dealing with these issues. Ferguson gives us a designedly popular exposition, like the original sermon itself, so as to be most helpful to the average person. He deals with the matters Jesus discussed in a cogent and concise manner that will appeal to virtually all. Does the Sermon on the Mount speak to us today? Ferguson makes clear that it does, and that we should take heed to what it says.
