Sent from Overseas - a moral outrage

A landmark book. Mandatory reading for Caribbean nationals from all walks of life who, because of their colonial past, will never be able to avoid an encounter with someone 'sent from overseas'. Mr Gurley exposes the arrogance, deceit and greed that usually comes with the baggage of corporate executives from 'developed countries' when they land in 'developing countries' as bosses. This book is written with skill and passion, a cri de coeur that should curdle the consciences of the power brokers at the top of the corporate ladder of the British company 'Cable & Wireless'. At the same time it is an eloquent invocation for Caribbean people to purge a malignant cancer from their midst. There is not a dull page. Mr Gurley tells a truth more enthralling than fiction, a cliffhanger that fills the reader with a sense of moral outrage. If you live and work in the Caribbean islands, ignore Mr Gurley's book at your peril.

A must read, if you are a Caribbean National

I Have just finished reading this book, and I must say that it has opened up my eyes to the world of corporate politics, and what pains it brings to these small economies, Rudy skillfully portrays his rival as an evil scheming person, I disagree with his opinion, and I also wonder wh at his fellow CEs thought of him, perhaps another book Rudy? From the favorable responses I have seen, the book is graded on the merits of the written word, he invokes such emotion from the reader,I am impressed by his skill as a writer. It hurts to read so many things written about my friends, and yes I do know a lot of the characters in the book, subtle references to them ensures that people who were close to them would know who they are, I also laughed about the part where the consultant had spelling mistakes in her presentation. I would have no hesitation in recommending this book however, whether you are a present employee, past employee or you work for the competition, use it to fully understand the world of corporate politics, and recognize the actions of managers when given a directive which my hurt the ones who have pledged their loyalty and commitment to a really great company. A very open thank you to Rudy for writing this!!

Sent from Overseas: A true story

Wow! I just returned from St Lucia yesterday. My fourth trip there to the island. My husband and I have been so blessed by getting to know so many of the islanders there over the yrs. They are like family. In fact all of our family of 12 consider them family. We were all there together this holiday and shared a wonderful time with our family and our beloved friends in St Lucia we have gotten to know. Cummulatively my family has travelled there over 12 times since 1996 and the island offers us a place of peace and respite as no other..and this is mostly due to the wonderful spirit of the St Lucians who are so strong and beautiful of spirit. They know how to live life. Rudy's story helps us all to understand what growing up in St Lucia was like for him and so many and also today's corporate politics touch the island as they do everywhere in one way or another. This is an inspiring, heart wrenching at times, story of a man and his strength and his faith and courage and the woman who stands by his side. What a tribute to her as well as he describes her strength and his love for her and hers for him. I look forward to the third book in the trilogy. Real stories of human struggle and triumph should be what we, the reading public, need to support now more than ever. A great learning tool. These books could be great case studies for college business courses. The real world is as it is and we can all learn from Rudy's experience and manner of dealing with struggle.
