On reading Self-Powerment, page 6 caught my attention with the paragraph "When we are in the present moment with our attention focused inside ourselves, actually there is no thought. Only when we stop thinking can we access direct experience" Direct experience to me is alive and something I would like more of.As I continued to read about the axis, vertical "space" and horizontal "time" I was reminded of the years in high school doing algebra. My mind was concerned with learning a "new system" with this linear graph way of thinking.Alas, as I progressed further into the chapters and got to the point of practicing these techniques of observation, the system suddenly became alive. The first time that I "caught" a thought piggyback on a feeling there was a release, or a freeing of energy and I understood why Faye Mandrell had undertaken writing such a book.Although it is apparent that "truth" can not be practiced, the seeing of the "piggyback-thought-on-to-a-feeling" is liberating. It seems the freeing comes directly from the seeing.Addictive behaviors, thought to have "permanently" hopped on to a feeling (piggybacking) can also be dealt with using this observation technique. Faye has a stated bias towards the business community in this book. This book can equally well be used to direct one's own life towards the freedom or liberation that results from this "practice". No job required.!In chapter five "Any Questions" Faye answers the question how to deal with someone who is constantly negative. May I suggest, from my understanding, that the same answer applies in dealing with one who is constantly positive. In chapter seven we are encouraged to muse "to muse is to voluntarily speculate or enter a state of dreamy abstraction"Well I did some musing and thought how it would be if not only the corporate world but also the political world adopted this practice of observation. Imagine Washington DC operating out of the state of presence or the military planning a campaign from this state. It reminds me of King Arthur and his Knights or Arjuna being advised by Lord Krishna to "remember me and fight" before entering battle. I suspect the battle being fought is not the same battle we hear today.Dreams or musings can come true.
