Pictures might be appropriate for a teenager but by then kids will have outgrown content. It's starts out "edgy" as another reviewer said, but pictures get worse as it goes (heads on spike). We didn't prescreen the book as we just assumed it would be fine and didn't even make it through the book before it got so graphic we had to put it away.

Oh, my. My two boys 3 and 6 LOVE this book. When they were little they loved the flaps all over the page and seeing what was underneath. Now they are older they are interested in what is said about each picture on the flap. My eldest likes finding the people that are talked about in a little more detail at the back: navigator, carpenter, cabin boy etc. The pictures are very detailed with only a couple being a bit edgy...
