Anais has done it again. A book which captures the reader's need for sensual, lyrical description as well as having the ability to allow common emotional themes to transcend the two covers, Nin paints for us the city of Golconda, Mexico, with its poor but happy natives and sweltering tropical escapism. The main character, Lillian, is a jazz musician who travels to Golconda for a 3 month stint and along the way rediscovers the beauty of Mexico she knew as a child, of the wise and natural existence known to those she meets, and the demons she must exercise from her own past.
