Then Simone falls in love with Ariste the master of a nearby plantation but their love is hampered by Simone's involvement in the Underground Railroad and her growing fears that Ariste is just another slave owner who abuses his slaves. Will their love win out? Of course, but not before the beloved main characters go through many ups and downs.
