I have found this book to be quite handy. I am an artist and I make contemporary paintings inspired by traditional tartans. This book is a tidy little reference for quick visuals when someone asks if I am familiar with a particular clan's tartan. The book's strength is its photographs of the tartans. The book's weakness: the narratives adjoining the visuals which assume that the reader has some knowledge of Scottish history and are written very much in the Scottish vernacular. I do very much appreciate this book regardless, and it has driven me to study the topic of tartans, and clan violence further.
Excellent

This is a very useful and informative book on Scottish clans and their appropriate tartans (a 19th century invention, mind you). Wonderful not only for those ignorant in the subject but also for the enthusiasts.
