Looks like brand new!

I used to have this dictionary when I was a kid 15-20 years ago. My dad bought it for me as a gift. I ordered 1/22 and got it today on 1/26! Speedy, speedy delivery! Thank you, now my kiddos can learn happily at home. My oldest daughter loves words, and always wanted to know what these words mean.

Great Dictionary

These dictionaries are a great fit for my students. The print size, pictures, and layout are perfect for primary students.

Perfect for my homeschool student!

I'm a homeschool mom and we will be working on alphabetization this year and as our vocabulary increases, it's great to have a dictionary on-hand. The definitions are kid-friendly, but not so basic that it can't be useful for years to come. The pictures are great, too. SO glad I made this purchase.

Scholastic Children's Dictionary

I rate this a 5 star for the purpose I purchased it. It introduced my grandson, as a 3rd grader with homework, to the use of a dictionary. I was astounded to realize that he had been reading his social studies with only partial understanding because of skipping over words that had no meaning for him ... words we take for granted with which a child has had little or no experience. I taught him the blessing of a dictionary and we started going over his work. His eyes lit up as his brain lit up with understanding. His grades went up .. a matter of great pride to him. Just learning to work the filing system of a dictionary quickly is another accomplishment for a 3rd or 4th grader. They can graduate to a more adult dictionary later on with confidence and grace. This one is a wonderful beginning.

For children under 9

This dictionary worked well up through the third grade. Now that my children are in the fourth and fifth grades they have many words to look up from their vocabulary assignments that are not in this book. I think the best age for this book should be five to eight. For that age range it's a 5 star book.

The BEST dictionary for your elementary school aged child!

As a teacher, I send my students to the dictionary daily to find definitions, word origins, diagrams, etc. Without fail, the Scholastic Children's Dictionary is the one that always provides the clearest information, and the most easily understood definitions for my fourth graders. If you're buying a dictionary for your child, this one's the best for grades 2 through 6!
