Saturday's Child

This is one of the better books I've read this year. It's the story of Sara Livingston (born on a Saturday and "working for her living"), a single mother determined to keep her heart under lock and key. Hardened by love affairs gone bad and family and financial struggles, it isn't until she meets her "knight in shining armour" that Sara begins to let down her guard. She discovers that she must learn to open her heart and mind to the idea of being in love again. Sloan's prose is full of description to the point that you feel like you are sitting in the room with the characters, enduring their tribulation and triumph, and feeling their emotions - love, pain, grief, and, most importantly, healing.The novel deals with myriad issues, from sibling rivalry to bedroom antics to domestic violence. Filled with plot twists and turns, this book will keep you up until the wee hours, hoping to gain closure for "Saturday's Child."

Sara Livingston believes that love has nothing to do with her life; she doesn't have time nor the energy for it. $aturday's Child can best be described as a bittersweet story of love, family relationships and friendships. For sassy mouth Sara, a take charge, take no bull from anyone woman, life has been a roller coaster ride through hell and back. For Sara daily survival is on her mind, not love. When Theo Watkins enters her life through an introduction from his niece, Sara's world is turned upside down and Sara questions her initial thoughts of love. Also entering her life at the same time is an ex-con name Franklin Santiago. Franklin becomes obsessed with Sara but Theo proves to be her savior from much of the drama and from herself. Even as Sara's life changes she continues to question whether or not she is deserving. Gayle Jackson Sloan has penned a novel that is full of drama and unabiding love. Jackson Sloan provides the reader with just enough family history that you come to understand the characters and their behavior. Who doesn't have family members like these people? I know I could identify. Every character possibly has a story to tell. A nice touch is added when Jackson Sloan describes the homes of the inhabitants and the interior decorating schemes. Shucks, you could learn a lot about decorating just from reading this book. Also her use of the terminology Saturday's Child throughout the novel is symbolic in nature resulting in an ending that is very realistic. This is a fast read that quickly draws you in at the beginning. In addition to being a fast read it is also thought provoking, rich in dialogue and highly recommended.

I soooo loved this book! Sara was a lady after my own heart. She didn't take stuff from ANYBODY!!! All she wanted to do was to love and care for her daughter and try to make a decent living. However, life was overwhelming her and she was hangin' by a thread. When her best friend, Brenda, introduced her to two men, ON THE SAME DAY, life changed forever for Sara.First she meets Franklin, who looks like an Adonis, but has a few skeltons rattlin' 'round in the closet. Sara's not sure if she can accept and deal with those skeltons, but she might give him a chance.Then she meets Brenda's sexy, widowed uncle Theo. Even though Sara has to acknowledge the sparks goin' off between them, she's wary that he might have just a little too much on his plate like a daughter who refuses to see her father as a man and a son who is just STRANGE.However, when Brenda faces a crisis, Sara is right there for her girlfriend. Which throws her into more contact with Theo.As things change and progress for Sara and the men in her life, situations and things occur which she could never have imagined.When a tragedy of huge proportions happens, it is a question of not only how Sara handles it, but how will she survive it?Ms. Sloan has written a compelling and powerful novel that draws the reader in from page one! These are people we know who talk like people we know. I found myself laughing out loud, gasping and actually crying by the time I finished this book. I would recommend for anyone who is looking for a rollercoaster ride read, to pick this book up! These characters will stay in your mind for a long time to come!!!

If you haven't picked up Saturday's Child, you're missing a great and memorable book!!!! I read this book in two days only because like most of us, I had to get some sleep to go to those peoples job! Ms. Sloan painted a picture so vividly in my mind that Sara's struggles were my struggles. Her joys were my joys. The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it had to end; as do all good things. Ms. Sloan thank you for writing a story that made me laugh, cry and most importantly entertained me! Keep up the good work and I anxiously look forward to your next novel. HURRY

Sara Livingston is a woman who didn't have the benefit of a silver spoon. She didn't find the meaning of true love outside of family until negative forces had already been set in motion. Two different types of men enter her life on a collision course. It leads to the question, 'what is the inevitable'? Will she continue her streak of choosing the wrong man, the bad boy? Or will she at long last 'give love a chance' and allow herself the chance of having stability and security for her and her daughter? Outside forces tend to weaken her defenses leading her to handle her problems badly. Will she allow the one man who truly loves her to help her or does she continue to think that she has to do everything on her own? This is a book full of love, mystery and intrigue. I encourage you to follow Sara as she learns that though 'life ain't no golden stair' it doesn't have to be full of splinters and loose treads. Sometimes you can believe it when a man says, 'Lean on me'. This is a great read and I encourage you to take it with you on vacation and beyond. Ms. Sloan has a winner in $aturday's Child. I guarantee that you'll recommend it to your friends so they won't permanently borrow it from your library.
