A children's story that only encourages good thinking

I love children's books - and one of my very favorite Christmas books as a child was "Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree"...the illustrations captivated me and continue to be delightful, and more importantly the idea of 'reusing/recycling' was at the heart of the story - How wonderful to see the joy each recipient experienced upon receiving their 'gift' of the top of the tree! This is a message that is never too old, too left-wing, or too alarmist. In that same vein, "Santa Goes Green" is also a story of sharing through environmental awareness. To those critics who cry that Santa, a symbol of Christmas, has now been dragged into a left wing agenda - i say that Santa is a symbol of all that is commercial about Christmas. Yes, he is a beloved symbol whose legends have evolved over time and his image as as a jolly, round Santa was cemented in the 1930's - thanks to the Coca Cola commercials - but that is not who Saint Nicholas really was. For those critics who claim to represent "Santa" at Christmas, do you know Santa really was a gaunt and ascetic saint who was a man of justice, with concern for the poor, a protector of children, and a savior of victims with unfortunate circumstances. The mall santas i have seen have never been portrayed this way. If you are not concerned about the environment, fine - but don't use this book as your agenda to lash out at those who enjoy well written and beautifully illustrated books for children.

I Can't Believe the Right Wing Extremists

Santa Goes Green This time the Right is not Right. I'm not an environmental activist, but I still believe we must all use common sense when it comes to conserving the environment for the future. I've purchased several of these books for my Grandchildren and they have all been thrilled with the story. It makes the point, at the chid's level, that everyone can have a positive impact on the environment. It is truly in the tradition of famous children's authors such as Dr. Suess by making reading fun, helping to sharpen reading skills, and at the same time making a point at the chid's level. Those critics who believe the author is some environmental KOOK are simply uninformed about children's literature.

Great book for kids.

Perfect for a budding young mind that hasn't been ruined by adults with bad attitudes. (Notice the negative reviews that all have the same tone and were written on the same date. Hmm, I wonder if they have even touched a copy of this book.) Anyway, the story is about a boy that wants to help his polar bear friend who is losing his home because the ice is melting due to global warming. Instead of toys for Christmas he asks Santa to help make people more aware of global warming. The artistry, like the story is simple and rich, perfect for young children and maybe a few adults that might want to read to them.

Children's Books...the Dean's List

"...a delightful book with a serious (and important) message about the environment. Throughout the book the illustrations are clear, crisp and full of the beauty of the world. Artist Elisa Chavarri's work contains delightful details, beautiful color schemes and eye-popping page layouts such as when Santa and his reindeer first take flight in search of Finn and when Finn first posts his letter to Santa. An added dimension to the story is found toward the end of the book when Santa reorganized his toy shop to promote sustainability. Ideal for children age 4 to 8." -Children's Books...The Dean's List
