Providing step-by-step lessons for the most popular Web scripting language, this title is an entry-level tutorial for the reader with absolutely no programming background. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Although not the most detailed, this book I felt did its job. It gave me a solid foundation in the basics of JavaScript and in a very short time. I recommend supplementing this book with a more advanced JavaScript book like O'Reilly's "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide".
Quick and easy

This book is great for beginners. I started with Goodman's JavaScript Bible and was very confused. After reading this book I started to understand the language faster. Great workshops and has questions at the end of each hour.
I great jumpstart...

If you are looking for a book that will take you through JavaScript step-by-step starting at ground-zero this is the book for you. There are plenty of exercises and the answers are provided. Each chapter is maneageble with good explanations. You start a point zero and progress up to some fairly complex concepts by the time you finish the book. Perfect for people with little or no prior experience in web programming. Probably not the book for you if you are fairly experienced or are looking for a complete reference. I would recommend visiting the book's website prior to beginning to make corrections. There aren't many, but it may save you some frustration.
A good introduction to a big topic

This book is excellent like a breath of fresh air. I bought 2 other books, the bible and O'reilly but this book keeps you awake and disseminates the information in small, painless, digestable quantities that are actually fun to read and try out. The book is not a reference and I use my other books for that. If you want to learn Javascript as a beginnner buy this book and run with it. You won't put it down till the end. Please!! Please could the author write a book on Java programming and C++.
Excellent overview

A writer has to write to a "market" and Michael has done an excellent job presenting Javascript to the newcomer. He has lots of examples covering most everything you might want to do with Javascript from rollovers to forms verification. This is NOT a comprehensive Javascript reference, but after working through this book, you'll be ready for one.I use this book in my classes at NYU and the students are actually doing Javascript this term ... something that didn't happen with the book I used last term (which shall remain nameless). If you're already a programmer, get a reference book, if you're a beginner, I can't imagine a better start. (Unless, of course, my next book is on Javascript.)
