Sally Bradford: The Story Of A Rebel Girl

This story is about a girl named Sally Bradford and all the trouble her family goes through during the Civil War. At first the Bradford family lives in the Tidewater country of Virginia, but when the Civil War starts Sally's older brother and father have to become soldiers to fight for the Confederate States of America. Soon the Bradfords find themselves living in Richmond, Virginia. Everyone gets a job to support the family except for grandpa because he is to old and he needs his rest. One day at the hospital Sally sees her brother but doesn't have the right medicine to give him. When she has to cross the territory lines she succeeds and finds what she is looking for. Finally the Bradford family is reunited after the cold, harsh war. I think that Sally is a very brave young girl after all she went through in the book. She is also willful and friendly. I would have longed to be friends with her. The conflict in the story is that the family keeps on splitting. First Rob and Father leave to fight in the war. Then when the family has already moved to Richmond Tim, Sally's younger brother goes and joins the army without telling Mother or Nora. Soon after that Sally leaves to find the medicine she needs for wounded Rob. When Sally returned she had the medicine. Rob got much better. Everyone was back. The only thing was that Grandpa had died. Sally had fixed the main problem. I recommend this book to all the people that love adventure. It is also good if you need something to tell you about live during the Civil War.

A very educational book with a spunky girl.

I really liked this book. I learned a lot. It was interesting. Sally was a spunky girl. She had the courage during a bad time to help her family.

Very good book in the Her Story series.

This book is about Sally Bradford, a young Confederate girl during the Civil War. This gives a Southern perspective of the war. Sally's father and brother are away fighting for the south. Even though the Brafords own no slaves the Yankees still burn her house and the family must flee to Richmond. Then, Sally's brother gets typhus and is sent to a Richmond hospital. He needs quinine but the stores have none because of the war. Sally must travel across enemy lines to get medicine for her brother before it's too late. This book showed that there was more to the Civil War then the slavery issue.
