Safe Harbor

I enjoyed this book very much. As usual with Rice you always get plenty of warmth, great characters. Her stories are rarely shallow. The sense of place is wonderful. Two young sisters lose their parents and their Aunt becomes their guardian. Or do they become hers. It is all about how they save each other from their grief and teach one another to love and live again. I love this one because of the voice of the child Quinn. There is sisterhood and mothers and daughters and loss and grief and the sea and recovery. The adult romantic thread of Dana and Sam is lovely and well paced. [FYI:these characters appear in Rice's True Blue, but their story, which is left sort of happily in the air in Safe Harbor, is hardly touched upon in True Blue. It was handled very willy-nilly, abortively even. Especially after the promise at the ending of Safe Harbor. It made me downright mad. Sorry, I had to say that out loud.] But, read Safe Harbor anyway, it is a lovely story. I would have loved a long epilog finishing the story with a rip-roaring no holds barred happy ending.

I have read several Rice books including older ones and most recent ones. I loved Save Harbour I believe most of all the ones I have read including Summer of Roses which was up until Save Harbour my favorite. Betty Blanton

Rice's novel about the mending of broken hearts set on Cape Cod is a rich and delightful novel for the beach. Readers will find themselves rooting for the characters to find their capacity to love again despite past betrayals and losses/ Rice describes the Cape to a tee and evokes the place no matter where in the world you are.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I do most of Luanne Rice. Dana lived a great life with her talent as an artist over in France. But when a tragedy happens that totally shakes up her family picture; she heads back to home. Dana's sister Lily, and her husband both drowned in a sailing accident, leaving their two daughters behind. So now Dana must take responsibilty for Allie, the youngest, and Quinn the oldest. Allie is taking her grief in her stride; but Quinn is killing mad and angry at the whole situation. So besides Dana's own grief she must deal with, she has to deal with the challenge of Quinn as well. Sam Trevor was a lost love many years ago of both Dana and Lily. He shows up, and is a form of support to both Dana and the girls. Sam starts to really fall in love with Dana, but Dana won't let herself get too close to him. So time will tell what happens between the two. Quinn is also angry because she is convinced something else happened to her parents other than the way it appears to be. So since Sam is an oceanographer, Quinn puts him to work at the bottom of the sea to find out what secret might lie in deep waters on the boat where the drowned. Tru;y a good read. I highly recommend it!

If you like romance and feel good books, this is one of the best. Luanne Rice shines with this book, as she does with all of her books. It is a stay-up-all-night, cant-put-down book. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. You will love this book.
