Great for beginers, not for deeper issues though..

My boss told me to "set up an NT server", I had worked with NT before, but never set one server up by myself. It is great for beginers and covers most of the first things you need to know. But when you covered the basics and go back for a reference a coupple of months later you will not find the depth you like. When i wanted to know how comressing a drive would affect the over all preformance it simply says:"We don't see the point of a server using compression with the price of a harddisk today". And that is not the kind of anwser i was looking for. so if you are a newbe, go ahead, if you wanta reference book, look for something else. But it is still a very good book.

Simply useful

Easy and understandable -- much advice about planning. Best book for someone starting a network.

Not the deepest, but easiest to understand

Not as "in depth" as some others, but easy to read and understand. Outstanding for someone trying to get their network running because of emphasis on planning and doing things right from the first.

Starts strong and finishes pretty solid

As an MCSE, is important to have adequate information and resources. Besides having the resource kit, an easy-to-follow guide is a must - this book pretty much gives you that. The only thing I didn't like were the ending chapters about TCP/IP and intergration.

Excellent Read

For a technical manual, I had a hard time putting this one down. For anyone setting up a Windows NT Server, or who wants to better understand the network they have inherited this book is essential. It emphasizes planning and testing of the network before rollout, and gives good strategies for data protection and overall security. It is very readable and the authors do a good job of keeping the text flowing. My only complaint is that the later chapters on integrating the Internet are weak, and refer the reader too often to another text. The majority of the book is solid though, and enjoyable.
