Rum and Reggae: The Insider's Guide to the Caribbean, Revised and Expanded 1994-1995 Edition

this is the best carribean guide I have ever read, this guy obviously had a lot of fun writing it! You can tell he really knows all the best-kept-secret places. He even includes a table analyzing the relative warmth of the locals towards travelers, for each island. My only wish is that he would do it again, it is 6 years old now and although the carribean islands generally move slow, the volcano eruption on Monsarrat & several hurricanes have made some of this info rather dated, but this book is still a must-have, I wore out my first copy and am here ordering another. Mr Runge, may we PLEASE have a 3rd edition of this classic?

Mr. Runge's Rum & Reggae is a fun read, not to mention a great guidebook to the Caribbean. He throws in funny and interesting asides which, unlike many other travel guides, leads you to believe that he has actually been to the places he's writing about. He's not afraid to tell it like it is, and is heartily enthusiastic about places that deserve recognition. If you consider yourself a sophisticated traveller, looking for something different in your travels, and, therefore, in your guidebook, make this one the one you read before and during your next trip to the Caribbean. You won't be sorry.

Rum & Reggae was the most "down-to-earth" Caribbean guide I found. His advice was a great guide to what to expect and look for. In St. Lucia, visit J.J.'s at the top of the hill above Hurricane Hole. Excellent local food, friendly people, music and dancing Wed. and Fri.
